What began as a practical decision to keep a small flock of chickens on our rural Florida property became an unexpected artistic journey. As I got to know my birds, I quickly realized they were far more intelligent, curious, affectionate, and individualistic than most people imagine. They challenged my assumptions and inspired me to look more closely.

Uncaged: The Conscious Chicken is an ongoing photographic exploration of animal consciousness, identity, and the stories we tell about the creatures who share our world. Through portraiture and narrative imagery, I seek to reveal chickens not as commodities or stereotypes, but as distinct individuals with unique personalities, emotions, and relationships.

Many visitors initially assume the photographs are AI-generated because they struggle to reconcile the complexity of the behaviors depicted with their perceptions of chickens. That moment of disbelief has become an important part of the work. It invites viewers to question not only what they are seeing, but also the assumptions they hold about intelligence, awareness, and worth.

My hope is that these images inspire curiosity, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for the remarkable lives of animals that are so often overlooked. For me, the chickens are both muse and collaborator, continually reminding me that extraordinary stories can be found in the most unexpected places.
